Surviving the Winter in Rochester, New York

Rochester doesn't usually get a ton of snow, but there are definitely plenty of days below 20 degrees, accompanied with lots and lots of gloom during the winter months.

I can’t wait for the days where I don’t need to fire up a space heater to make my studio bearable.

Here are some tips to survive the long grey months and get you through to spring.

Get a high quality coat and boots.

I prefer a coat that goes to my knees and has lots of fur on the inside.

Get out and explore!

Don’t let the cold weather turn you into a hermit. Bundle up and go for a walk, to a museum or local coffee shop. I’m definitely not a home body, which is why winter is so rough for me. I try to get out for a run or a movie to perk me up. Winter sports are obviously a good solution as well.

Leave!

Get away for a week. Take a trip somewhere warmer. It feels so great to see the sun again as well as get outside without the risk of literally dying. Even if you have to come home to one more month of gloom, it will make you feel so much better.

Think spring.

Plan a garden, book a summer trip. It feels good to have something to look forward to.

Stay positive knowing it wont last forever.
